From Cairo to Kuala Lumpur, the short-term cash deposits lodged in the 1970s and 1980s by Muslim investors have swelled to a 50 billion dollars sector, creating serious investment opportunities. Islamic banks are diversifying their portfolios - and conventional banks are opening Islamic divisions to compete. Jason Thompson reports.
