Abstract:Huge social, political, economic and cultural problems plague Sahelian Africa. Poverty, disease, hunger, war, malnutrition and misery characterize peoples lives in the region. Despite such tragedies, social scientists, international civil servants and politicians contend that development remains one strategy for tackling Sahelian Sub-Saharan Africa's devastating problems. This essay focuses on the media and its relationship to sustainable development in Sahelian Africa. It defines sustainable development, provides a brief historical survey and focuses on problems and policies.
