Abstract:The author of the article reports on the entry of global banks into the Islamic banking market. The paper considers the development of products enabling banks to offer competitive rates and the need for regulatory and accounting standards. The paper also pays attention to business strategies developed by banks and provides the following insets: definitions of Islamic banking terms; Bahrain sets the pace. The author also states that in little more than a decade, Islamic banking has grown into a $200 billion a year industry. With top global banks entering the market, it is deepening its professionalism and broadening out with sophisticated and ingenious new products, including private equity, mortgages and even some securitization.
