Abstract:Review of the five major airlines in the U.S. and unsteady situation of their management-labour relations. The analysis covers competition, fare wars, battles with unions and a rough deal for passengers. Hub cities used by the airlines. The market share, seat-miles, revenue, labour costs and operating income of all five airlines is given. A box gives advice for passengers and indicates their rights as travellers. The review indicates that the future of the airlines depends on long haul ticket prices and whether there will be a passenger revolt.
