Abstract:Information industry executives and people in the IS industry are concerned about the quality of education in the USA schools. They try to push reforms through but alternatives are proving effective. Five key points are identified: lack of time devoted to science, poorly organized mathematics curicula, poor quality of instruction, lack of good textbooks, insufficient teacher training. New approaches are proposed to overcome the problem, like the need to apply technology to all phases of education. Technology firms are becoming involved in the public education system in unprecedented ways, like lending employees as teachers, etc.
