Abstract:Research has suggested that economic circumstances are often the compelling factor in the extension of union participation into areas previously reserved to management. For as management needs concessions in wages and work rules to survive, unions see the need to protect members rights by more involvement in the decision making process. Unions are changing their view of what constitutes managerial prerogatives. They need greater information and influence over a wider array of issues that traditionally have been reserved for management.
