| Abstract: | This paper explores the engagement of leisure studies as an academic field and as organized intervention with the phenomenon of globalization. The World Leisure and Recreation Association's (now World Leisure's) Sao Paulo Declaration on Leisure and Globalization is taken as a point of reference. Conceptual imprecision and potential contradictions in the Declaration, which are analyzed in the light of globalization theory and 'autoethnographic' research, are considered as signs of wider problems in leisure studies. |
