Abstract:The focus of this study is on the adjustment costs of globalization by looking into the effects of international outsourcing on individual transitions out of jobs in the manufacturing sector of Denmark for the period 1990-2003. The study estimates a competing risks duration model that distinguishes between job-to-job and job-to-unemployment transitions. It is found that outsourcing increases the unemployment risk of low-skilled workers, but the quantitative impact is modest.
