Abstract:Women executives in Fortune 500 companies nurture a special kind of political know-how, more subtle and sophisticated than their male counterparts. In-depth interviews with some of the most prominent women executives in America provide insight into how these women made it to the top. The analysis of the interviews revealed that most women executives had gone through four stages of political mturation: (1) Political Naivete, (2) Building Credibility, (3) Refining a Style, and (4) Shouldering Responsibility.
