Abstract:The Securities and Exchange Board of India's attempts to regulate the market and eliminate unethical trading practices have largely worn down its opponents. Now it has to deal with their alternative plans for reform. Efforts to establish a comprehensive regulatory system that encompasses all market participants have gathered pace since January 1992, when the role and authority of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) were defined. Regulation of market intermediaries has been at the top of the agenda.
