Abstract: | Pastr studies on power have focused on static organizational constructs or hierarchical distribution of authority. An interactionist approach may help to focus more on the processes within an organization. The symbolic interactionist approach recognizes the fact that social activities require co-ordination and control and deals with the meaning of symbols to the participants and their actual acts. Organizational symbols such as stories, myths, rites etc. play specific roles in maintaining, communicating and modifying organizational culture. Organizational culture plays a critical role in the exercise of power. |
