Abstract:For international companies the cross boarder transfer of personnel is absolutely essential. The ability of managers to think and act in global dimensions is promoted by international assigments. Out of the variety of problems that arise when a manager is delegated to a foreign country, the problem of an adequate compensation is serious enough to make considerable efforts to solve it properly. The main characteristics of a well-conceived compensation policy are discussed. Some guiding principles /e.g. requirements, structure, components and currency/ are described and analyzed.
