Abstract:During the period from 1993 to 1995, the per capita income disparity between urban residents had expanded to 2.78 times from 2.25 times and that between the highest income and the average income to 92% from 81.1%. At the same time, the per capita income disparity between rural residents had widened too resulting from the uneven regional development in the more than decade since reform and opening to the outside world. However, it was not obvious that the income gap between urban and rural residents was widening. But it was true of income gap between industries. At present, among staff and workers of all trades and professions, those in financial industry and real estate have the highest monthly income and the gap between them and those in agriculture, forestry, husbandry and fishery has reached 80%.
