Abstract:This paper compares China's income level in 1994 with America's in 1994 by using the purchasing power parity calculating method used in the UN international comparison project. The results show the following: calculated according to the aggregate purchasing power parity exchange rate of 2.26 yuan RMB to 1 US dollar, China's GDP and per capita GDP in 1994 amounted to US$ 2056.7 billion and US $ 1716, 2.81 times greater than US $ 450 calculated according to the exchange rate in that year and they were equivalent to 30.5% and 6.6% of America's respectively. Irving B. Kravis, however overestimated China's per capita income due to the fact that he overestimated China's per capita GDP and his estimation of distribution of consumption expenditure proportion was in- consistent with China's formal statistical data made public.
