Abstract:Satisfactory estimations of an aggregate model may hide many specification problems. The estimations conducted in this paper illustrate the difficulties associated with the aggregation of dynamic labour demand models. After having restricted the sample to firms in which employment has evolved in the same direction for all skill levels, the authors have obtained rather good-looking estimations of an aggregate labour demand model. Those relative to the disaggregated models appear to be less satisfactory and are far from being coherent with the supposed model.
