Abstract:This study of the current Canadian scene leads to the following observations: (1) Canadian banks are poised to grow; (2) Canadian banks must have global networks but be North American focused, i.e. compete regionally in a globalising world; (3) Canadian banks must increase the space they occupy in US markets to meet the competitive pressures from the FTA and globalisation of capital markets; (4) Canadian banks must be market-driven and be driven by product innovation and market innovation in order to maintain customer relationships.
