Abstract:A scenario is outlined which is believed to be increasingly common in the decades ahead. In this environment customers and producers interact where society is deeply and diversely interconnected; computer and information technology is widespread; consumer needs become increasingly ill-structured, so that consumers have only a vague perception of the product they need. It is proposed that corporations would need to gear up to allow for rapid prototyping of the product and customer experimentation with the product. It is also discussed how the structure of organizations will be altered by the integration of the customer as the co-constructor of the product.
