Abstract:The article surveys the problem of the dancing demonstrations and explains their significance in the history of the Meiji Restoration of l868. As a conclusion the author suggests that historians would do well to listen to all the 'ideological gongs' of the different epochs, such as the gongs and drums of the semiotic dancing called 'Ee ja nai ka'.
