Abstract:The Japanese manufacturing sector has been, and still is, characterized by significant wage differentials between different sized establishments. For years, many researchers have given close studies to this phenomenon and a variety of hypotheses have been presented. However, the sources of the positive correlation between the establishment size and the wage rate have not been studied out. This paper concentrates on the interscale wage differentials in the "heavy industries", i.e., industries with economies of scale.
