Abstract:Former socialist countries are transforming themselves into market oriented ones. However, they will not take pace with their western counterparts unless able to adopt the modern technology and innovation from the West. Market transition is important , but even more so is the integration of the CEE countries into the structure of the democratic industrialised world.A new technology and management basis is crucial for productivity to raise and for a suitable export performance to emerge. That should enable the CEE to export and to import more and so to integrate themselves into the global economic as well as international trade framework.Without a both-way globalisation of their economies, there is not much change for an economic advancement of the CEE.And without an economic recovery there is a danger of emerging of a wide spectrum of extremist ideologies.A more stable economy and a higher growth of income would generate more stability in the CEE; thus, the world would be a more stable place to live in.
