Abstract:The climate is horrible. The infrastructure is rudimentary. The bureaucrats seem not to have noticed russia's capitalist revolution. So why are foreigners aching to get involved in Siberia? The answer lies mainly underground. Andrew Rosenbaum reports. Siberia has the lion's share of Russia's natural resources -75% of its land, 70% of its oil, 50% of its coal, 90% of its natural gas, and almost all of its metals, diamonds and timber.
