Abstract:There are three major crimes in strategic planning, an activity in which the marketing function plays a major role. An implicit assumption is that the key planners are the line managers who have to live with the plans they make. The three crimes are: poor breadth of analysis and recommendations, poor or no vision from the top, and poor process. The list could be much longer if petty crimes were included in the list. The solutions to the crimes lie mostly in improving the process of strategic planning.
