| Abstract: | Flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) obtain their flexibility to a large extent through CNC machines, which are capable of manufacturing different part types due to a computerized, controlled tool exchange mechanism and to an efficiently working tool management system. For the designer of an FMS the question arises how to specify this tool management system in order to deliver the necessary tools in time. This paper presents a model which allows the evaluation of the performance of an FMS with a static as well as with a dynamic working tool management system. |
