Abstract:The area of foreign trade or of the economic relations with abroad as a whole is of vital importance for its growth and further development considering the restricted size of the Slovene economy and market after the attainment of independence.The vision of the economic relations of Slovenia with abroad is the result of the factors (present state, genera! conditions of the economic relations with abroad, integration activities, relations with the key countries or the groups of countries, points of view and stands which are included in the Strategy of the Economic Development of Slovenia or the other existing area strategies) and of its content (significance and fundamental emphases of future economic relations with abroad, the goals in this field and the role of the state in future economic relations with abroad.The vision as such presents the starting point to defining the strategies and policies according to the individual fields of the Slovene foreign economic strategies.The factors of the vision formation as well as the definition of strategies and tactics according to the individual fields are the subject of other chapters of "Foreign-Economic Strategy of Slovenia."The central criterion of the Slovene economic relations performance with abroad is their contribution to the prosperity of domestic population, to the quality job creation and to the reduction of unemployment.The central criterion is also related to the question of performance and effectiveness of the foreign trade of small business.The fundamental global goal (a faster economic growth with the developmental catching up with the developed European countries) should be additionally specified: on one hand, it is necessary to intensify the participation on the global economy together with the improvement of the production structure and the acceleration of technological transformation of the state; on the other hand, it creates genera! conditions which will not be worse than the main competitors' conditions.As concerns the future content intervention it can be asserted that the state's role is complementary in the fact it creates and maintains the basic conditions for the economic development.A further goal of the state's intervention in this field is that it helps create the environment which will encourage the operation of all the system's determinants of the competitive advantages (know-how educated and flexible labour force, innovation impetus, diversified transportation and communications system) with which it will, simultaneously, create the circumstances to attract foreign investors.
