Abstract:Financial systems have experienced dramatic changes over the last twenty years. A sharp acceleration in the pace of innovation has significantly transformed both domestic and international financial systems. Securitization, probably the most dominant trend prevailing in international financial markets during the 1980s and early 1990s, has had the impact of shifting credit flows from bank lending to marketable instruments and has been largely reflected in the growth of off-balance sheet activities (OBSAs), claim the authors.
