Abstract:The demands of corporate stakeholders have gained increasing importance in recent years and environmental liabilities have become an especially important focus. This article suggests a theory of early awareness which promises that, by perceiving structural trends, companies will be able to anticipate changes in their environment in time to respond in a proactive manner. The article investigates empirically, using fifteen cases, whether this anticipatory planning is really possible. At the same time, the authors review how diffusion processes behavior and which factors influence them.
