Abstract: | The booming 1980s highlighted corporate expansion through mergers, acquisitions, and strategic alliances domestically as well as internationally. Corporate restructuring became a prevalent strategic tool to respond to financial market demands. As delayering and downsizing became the name of the game in the recession of the early 1990s, firms became increasingly aware that they also need to address strategic contraction. Practitioners find strategic change difficult, yet they must try or else be left behind in the competitive race. |
