Abstract:Although the development called New Law and Economics has its origins in the United States of America, the interest in the economic analysis of law is also rapidly growing in Europe. The paper tries to explain why the legal and the economic science have grown apart. It stresses the benefits of an interdisciplinary approach and assesses the chances of a future growth of Law and Economics in Europe.
