Abstract: | This paper investigates the effects of organizational dissimilarity, partner nationality, and the economic motivation on the dissolution of joint ventures. Hypothesis was tested in a sample of 186 ventures, by using event-history analysis. U.S.-Japanese joint ventures lasted longer than U.S.-U.S. joint ventures, in general cultural distance did not have any effect on dissolution. Prior relationships between partners appeared to negate few complexities arising from culture differences. Opportunistic threat and rivalry seemed to be a stronger indication of the dissolution of joint ventures than organizational variables. |
