Abstract:This paper carries out a numerical thought experiment on greenhouse gas abatement. There are two states of the world: one in which climate policy is purely based on intrinsic motivation in the sense of intergenerational altruism; one in which agents distrust voluntary cooperation, but have agreed to provide an extrinsic stimulus for greenhouse gas abatement through a system of tradable carbon rights. The main results are mentioned in the paper.
