| Abstract: | Within a certain period of time, the effect of the protective policy of agriculture in increasing the domestic agricultural output and farmers' income is beyond doubt. However, the enormous economic cost of the protective policy of agriculture has surmounted its effects by an extremely big margin. Low efficiency is determined by its essential characteristics. In view of the specific circumstances of China as well as experiences and lessons from home and broad it is improper for China to implement the protective policy of agriculture widely. In the first place, the cost is enormous and it is uneconomic and inefficient. In the second place, we have special national circumstances. Agricultural population constitute the majority and there is great difficulty. Finally, the protective policy of agriculture will not necessarily represent farmer's interest. |
