Abstract:The paper discusses the proposition of the debate whether Great Britain should join the Economic and Monetary Union of Europe. The article also pays an attention to adoption of the euro and abandonment for the pound sterling and political implications of the participation of Britain. The paper also investigates the consideration on the level and structure of taxes. The author considers what would mean for a Britain joining the euro. Unless the interest rates and inflation rate were the same as those in the euro area and showed no signs of diverging at the time Britain joined, monetary policy and the inflation rate would have to change. He states that an example is useful.
