Abstract: | What are man's limitations as a processor of information? The purpose of this paper is to acquaint the reader with psychology's recent endeavors to answer this general question. Along the way a number of related topics will be considered, including studies of the accuracy and reliability of judgment; techniques for modeling the judgment process and making intuition explicit; biases in judgments of probability, variability, and correlation; experimental studies of risk-taking behavior; and discussion of the relative merits of scientific versus intuitive approaches to making judgments and decisions. |
