Abstract:In strategic management theory, the resource-based and the knowledge-based views are important developments. This paper focuses particularly on links btw. knowledge management (KM) and staffing practices. High-technology manufacturing was selected for this research as an ideal environment for exploring the strategies employed for both KM and recruiting and retaining employees. This paper identifies and explores two fits btw. KM and human resources (HR) strategy, called here as KM-HR configurations: 'personalization-retention' and 'codification-recruitment'. It is argued that there is no one way to manage knowledge and its links to HRM and build a simple framework of potential KM-HR configurations.
