Abstract:The study examines knowledge workers' attitudes and behaviours under various forms of salary administration and pay levels. The data was collected from a Norwegian company which planned to combine individual and collective performance and behaviours as the basis for individual bonuses. The main results are that base salary level, but not bonus level, was positively related to work performance and commitment to one's unit, ans that these relationships were partly affected by internal motivation. In addition, the study revealed that the relationship between bonus level and work outcomes were not influenced by the pay plan type.
