Abstract:The authors consider to what extent human resource practices affect the company’s performance. Data gathered within 250 Spanish companies is analyzed by means of regression analysis. The authors examine if the human resource practices have a positive effect on performance in any context or only under certain circumstances. Considering this, the authors have concentrated their study on the activity sector and the environment of companies, and explored if higher levels of competition and operating in the service sector mean better circumstances for the adoption of high involvement practices.
