Abstract: | The parent country national (PCN) expatriates are usually the locus of concentration in the literature on multinational enterprises (MNEs). In order to fulfill the staffing needs of MNEs international subsidiaries, these enterprises are more actively searching ways to utilize third country nationals (TCNs) and host country nationals (HCNs) in addition of the usage of PCNs, because their support and management can be relatively less expensive for MNEs. The authors describe three different environmental dimensions, namely the strategic, national and organizational dimensions to clarify their exploration, which is based on the person environment (P E) fit theory. The propositions of the authors are founded on an integrative model about the MNE staffing composition in different combinations of environmental dimensions. Suggestions for future research are presented. |
