Abstract:Between the years 1996-2003 the employment rate in Poland fell from 51.2 percent to 44.2 percent. The purpose of this paper is to describe the changes in rates of employment and wage during this period. The framework of this study is based on the aggregate average wage (hereafter as AAW), which is often used as an indicator of economic performance and welfare. The changes in employment have influenced the dynamics of the AAW. An analysis of the data indicates clearly that about a quarter of the growth in the AAW could be seen as a result from changes in employment.
