Abstract:The study examines the international market and operation strategies of service multinational enterprises (MNEs) from small and open economies. Specifically the study concentrates on the challenges that these type of companies face in their internationalisation process. The study is made developing a conceptual framework that is developed by means of previous researches of internationalisation of manufacturing companies and companies in different service sectors. Telecommunication operators are used as examples in the study. The findings reveal that in the international processes the telecommunication operators differ especially in their market strategies. Also other industry specific characteristics play an important role in the process.
