Abstract:This article proposes a duration analysis to consider the life-length of films that were released in Australian box office in 2000-2005. The analysis considers a range of film-specific covariates relating to distribution, production, consumer signals and weekly performance. The results show that film success responds to previewing, advertising, critical reviews and US box office. It also seems to be appropriate to account for unobservable heterogeneity between films in the choice of empirical methodology.
