Abstract:The appearance of seniority system in Japan 60 years ago can be explained by 5 mean reasons: insularity, influence of agriculture,high-quality labour force,a large proportion of young workers and deficiency of natural resources. At the beginning the system's aim were life-time employment, annual pay increase, the motivating of workers and a powerful labour selection. Nowadays, due to the need of managerial ability and specialized skill, the training of elderly employees, the increasing role of women in production and changes in perception of belonging to the organization, the system undergoes major changes.
