Abstract:A case situation taken from a high-tech aerospace firm in Southern California serves as an illustration for implementing the theories of motivation. These theories are characterized as being "overlays for diagnosing and solving human problems. A number of alternative theories had been presented in an earlier article and are used here as analytic devices: need theory, two-factor theory, reinforcement theory, expectancy theory, dissonance theory, equity theory, attribution theory. The use of these theories for improved decision making and problem solving is suggested. The careful application of them in an ongoing process could be a source of development of managerial decision making skills.
