Abstract:A survey is provided about on-the-job training, which is a continuous and planified training system. Its object is to enhance an individual's ability through work, under supervision of his superior. It is argued that this type of training is most effective when conducted in line with an enterprise's human resources development policy and in coordination with the training department's programmes. The advantages of on-the-job training for the employees the superiors as well as the firm itself are presented, and an outline of an on-the-job training is sketched and illustrated by a scheme. It is proposed that this type of training should get institutionalized, which is the case in Japan, where this continuous training is likely to replace classroom training.
