Abstract:The determinants of the pay bargaining structure is in the centre of interest because of the decentralisation of bargaining, and because of their effects on macroeconomics performance. Data from WIRS 84 ( Workplace Industrial Relations Survey) indicate that nearly 52% of establishments in the private sector bargain with a trade union over manual pay at either the organisation or the establishment level. It suggests that Britain cannot be described as either a completely centralised or decentralised wage-bargaining economy.
