Abstract:The high degree of interdependence accounts for the negligible differentials in diesel and petrol prices in Singapore, the result of which is the vigorous non-price competition. The effectiveness of these strategies is studied using data for one of the companies. The most widely practiced promotion strategies are giving away free gifts and having a lucky draw. In addition, chemical additives intended to enhance fuel quality are used as an advertising tool for product differentiation and to improve company image. The analysis illustrates the effectiveness of various promotions on diesel and petrol sales.
