| Abstract: | Japan's most potent competitive weapon is its system of forecasting, monitoring , and interpreting costs. This cost- management system is unique in the world. It means that while most American and European companies first develop a new product and then calculate the cost, the Japanese start with a target cost and then direct designers to meet the target. This system encourages companies and managers to find the right answers to strategic questions. |
