Abstract:Companies with a reputation for ethical interests, such as The Body Shop, are increasingly prepared to test their image against public and employee opinion. Will this social auditing pass from the fringe into mainstream business? Business will only be legitimate in the eyes of stakeholders in the 21st century if it behaves in an accountable way. So companies cannot continue to behave as if they operate in a moral vacuum.
