Abstract:Empirical evidence from developing countries indicates that macroeconomic shocks and monetary policy may have a stronger negative effect on women's employment than men's. In this article quarterly data for period 1980-2004 of nine Organization for Economic Co-operation and Economic Development (OECD) countries is used to examines economywide and sectoral employment effects by gender. Single equation regression and vector autoregression analysis are used to analyze the data. The results indicate that there is not a strong link between monetary policy instruments (short-term interest rates) and employee gender.
