Abstract: | The article discusses the effects of female board members: do the existence of women affect the financial monitoring role and efficiency of the board? The link between the board gender diversity and the financial performance is studied in Spain, where a legislation to improve equal opportunities for both genders in business life has recently been established. A panel data analysis is conducted, and the results reveal that having women on the board has a positive impact on the company value. The findings of this article signal investors that they should not disdain higher board diversity companies, and understand that the diversity can actually generate greater gains. |
