Abstract:This study compares the roles of internet and travel agencies in the formation of tourists' pre-visit images about destinations. The article provides empirical evidence about the factors that affect the image development and the ways in which individuals process information. The paper is based on a multicultural sample of 592 tourists interviewed at the Malaga airport in Spain. The analysis of the interviews reveals that the combining information from both sources causes more negative destination images than using only information from a travel agency. However, the participantsÂ’ message involvement and internet expertise influence the effects.
